I want that Sutherland Nixie! I saw it at RMAF and practically drooled! How did those 845 tube amps sound? Thanks.

The Sutherland Nixie sounded really good. But that whole room sounded great. The Technical Brain amps are amazing too.

845s likewise always sound lovely......maybe not necessarily the amplifier I would always buy, but still very enjoyable!

Hm 845s and 211s There's a number of downsides - one of which is they can smell!!! Lotta surface area and high temps mean they burn dust. So I basically wipe mine with a cloth prior to use:)

How much?!

Sounded wonderful, being driven by an Oppo SACD of all things.

The 1.7s are $2,700 here. The Australian dollar is worth more than the $USD at the moment. Remind me, how much does the 1.7 cost in the US. Greedy pigs.
Try NZ$4,699 which equates to US$3,740...............thanks for your work on this Australian Show Adam, sorry I could not make it across "the ditch".

Big room, and a good room. I spent ages in here.

Audio Note

Sounded very good in here, but the sound just didn't quite equate to the cost......

Grover Notting / Marantz / Nasaka

Now this was an interesting room. Grover Notting are Australian professional monitoring speakers and this room had GOOD SOUND........I might say a bit more about this room when I get the time.

Exactly my take on the high end Audio Note gear Adam. It always sounds good, but it never makes me step back and say "Wow, I gotta get me some of that!".

Great coverage, thanks for sharing the experience.

I've had that same thought. I wonder if it is the electronics or just the speakers they use? A.N. always seems to get good press.

Ohm / Icon

Lovely small scale sound.

ARC / ML / Clearaudio

Finally...............post #80 contains the sneak peak. Here is the rest.

The biggest disappointment of course was ...... No CLX. I've heard them in a much better environemt, but it doesn't give ML much kudos (for people not in the know) to be demonstrating the EM ESLs paired to a cheapo LS17 (as good as they are) while a perfectly good REF 40 sits over in the corner. Really. I guess, blame the distributor.

Whatmough / Simaudio / Moon

Colin Whatmough has recently died. What a great range of speakers and legacy he has left. This room sounded great. R.I.P. to a great audiophile and industry ambassador.

His family continue the business, but I wonder how far they can go without their key designer........

Adam, thanks for the ARC pics. Those Ref 40 ones really had me salivating. How did the room in which the Ref 40 was working sound ?

The Ref 40 was not connected in those pics. They connected it up later (at my request) in the ML room, but quite frankly, the MLs were not set up properly. This room had great sound (as you would expect, and certainly a great improvement with the Ref 40 in place), but certainly not best at show.
