Yes, I will be able to do whatever I like to the room, its a dedicated stereo listening room and I do plan on working with my dad on some traps. The current setup is 10wx15L, but if I blow out the 4ft walk in closet it can be 10x19. But I was planning on building a nice Vinyl rack in the closet...hmmmm .

oK so I'm impatient, I ended up getting a good price on new sealed spires. They are on the way. Once broke in and moved into the new house I will post my comparisons in my opinion. Thanks guys.

Necro, do you have the ability to add some trapping to your room? If you hang around here enough, you'll find that many of us have dealt with the rear wave which after doing so, yielded great results! I now have 10 traps of various capabilities which, surprisingly my wife agrees with!! I want/need more but I may be pushing my luck!

Gordon

Don't let JM see this post! He'll have you on multi-channel in a heartbeat!

Hey, I resemble that remark.:D

So about this HT stuff?...hmmmm. You have got me listening.

I was into the HT thing about 7-8 years ago. 5.1, 5.2, 6.2 and finally 7.2. Gosh , today I think they are up to 11.something. I wanted to get off the constant introduction of new formats every year. The HT was nice when the kids were home. It was a sneaky way of keeping them home and out of trouble on the streets :D

I still have a HT, but it has been drastically reduced and hopelessly outdated and I like it. I did break down and buy a Blu-Ray player because my Denon 2900 gave up the ghost. We enjoy a movie once or twice a week, but the two channel is on seven days a week.

That is not to say that multi-channel music is HT. I have heard some great sounding MC's, but they were not my cup of tea. I MIGHT be able to change my mind once I had the chance to hear JM's CLX MC. I'm not that closed minded!

Gordon

By the way, congrats and good choice on speakers!

Necro,

I will try to keep this short.....and sweet, like the music.:D

HT and Multi-channel are actually two separate things but they are played on one system. At least in theory, I know that is kind of contradiction but it is what it is.

HT is mixed to present the film experience with dialog and most of the sound from the action coming from the front and center speakers. Getting all the speakers to match has some benefit in HT but in general the side and rear speakers are used for ambience and sometimes gimicky sound, but certainly not the main presentation of sound. That is not to say that it doesn't matter what you use for the side and rears, just that the source material for the most part doesn't require the same level of sound reproduction from the side and rears. Confused yet.:D

In my HT I have all Stylos for Front, side, rear, Stage for center and two subs for the heavy lifting, oh yeah and butt kickers attached to the furniture which may cause the chair you are sitting in to lift off the ground once in a while.:D

Anyway, don't want to get in to a big Miltichanneled music discussion because that has been done before but......once you have a HT setup, you may want to try listening to some really well mastered multi-channel music with a 5.1 quality source. Like a McCormack, Simaudio, Lexicon, Universal Disc Player.

Now when you get in to really well mastered 5.1 surround sound music by the likes of Steve Wilson of Porcupine Tree, and several others that he has done. Then you get to the point where the music demands on the rears is at least equal to the demands placed on the fronts and center. When you get to this level of Multichannel music, it becomes akin to an in and out of body experience.

It is not for everyone......truth be told it is probably too much for some, but I like to experience music not just listen to it. With really great speakers matched at all 6 positions in a 5.1 system and of course playing multi-channel music that is mastered and mixed to be experienced in discrete 5.1 it is truly a different experience than just listening to two channel.

Not that two channel is less, or worse, multi-channel is just different and I personally enjoy it more than two channel, YMMV.

CLXs and Multi-channel always remind me of the warning label on Cialis and Viagra.

Not the part about......."If you experience an erection for more than 4 hours, see a physcian" Although that is true too, but rather the part about ringing in the ears and dizziness, the only way to stop it is to turn your system off, hey it's right on the label, honest.:D

Heres the good part gentlemen. He is going on vacation so the Spires are getting delivered to dad's house, Heh,Heh,Heh.

Best,
Bob

Hahahah, yea I guess your right! I just hope they arent better than your Prodigies...heheheh. then I will never get em back.:D

JM,

Thank you very much for your take on HT. I am sure at some point I will try it out, and I agree with you about the amazing Viagra music experience! hmmm that sounds like a new marketing slogan, CLX HT, It feels like a 4 hour erection without the physician call! hahaha. sorry. Anyway I am interested in this experience as I would love nothing more than that unreal pure musical experience and what I have heard and experienced with 2 channel has been amazing to me, I think I need to check HT out. Ofcourse hearing it at someone elses house before the big purchases could help. Or hurt ;)

Gordon,
Just wanted to say I got my new Spires and listened for about a half hour and even though these are very far from being broken in, the stage is much better than the vantage which is the main thing I was looking for in the upgrade. The bass was also MUCH more present than my vantages. Im pretty sure I made the right choice. I will keep you posted on my comparisons once they are broken in.
