Hi I could be being offered a great deal on a Descent i the problem is when I use the serial number identifier to see how old it is I get a date which is 4 years old - have I read it correctly?

serial number DCRJ 160

descent 2006 october number 16

thanks in advance for your help
 
That's how i intepret it as well.

It would make sense as the Descent i is not an old line.
 
Assuming you feel as though the sub is old, you may want to consider the actual date (16-Oct-2006) is the manufacturing date (I believe), and not the date of use / point of sale - it does not take into account factors such as ship and shelf time. In other words, the sub's "actual" age / usage would be more around the 3 yr mark versus the 4. I do not own the Depth i, but as it is the top of the line sub, IMHO the sub is 3 yrs young.

That would have to be one of the first Decent i's made. My Depth non "i" was made in January of 2006 and was most certainly one of the last made.
