Don't know if anyone on the Forum has mentioned this but observe the behaviour of electronic instruments with no reverb added....
The sound will appear to spring directly from the centre surface of the panel (roughly corresponding to ear height) When reverb is added to the recording the instrument will be displaced outside/behind/above/below that point. So the inference is that the room/panel relationship alone is not sufficient to create the illusion.....
