too much bass on sl3 pls.help

I am currently running a pair of sl3 being driven by an arc-vt100. Even at a setting of -3db on the bass switch, the speakers still sound boomy. I suspect that the problem is due to a capacitor in the crossover but would like some advice before I work on it. The speakers are just over 3 yrs old and bought used. Would appreciate any advice on the above matter. Thanks
