I'm ready to take the plunge. At least into the shallow end! I've been doing some reading and research and have maybe come to a conclusion.

Since I'm a vinyl newb, my thought process has brought me to this combination: A Pro-Ject RM10 with a Blackbird cart.

Would this be a good start or should I look in another direction?

Definitely a great place to start.

That table mates incredibly well with the Blackbird. May be enough table for good!

I agree. Forgive me because I'm I'm not familiar with the Mac gear - do you have a phonostage in your pre? If not, you'll need to factor that into the budget as well.

The Project stuff is great for entry level, and beyond as Jeff suggests. It'll definitely get you a nice view into analog. Don't scrimp on the software. Find one of your favorite pieces on a nice new pressing and enjoy!

Don't forget to include a level, a stylus cleaner, and a stylus force gauge in the budget - that said, they are relatively cheap.
