Hi all,

Would any of you object to having some advertising banners on the site? It is a way we can generate a little money to keep the site going without me having to ask you guys for it every year. It might also help pay for an annual get-together.

Answer the poll and then let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

Tom.

Tom, I answered yes - but have questions, caveats etc.

Would we be able to limit the banners to audio related advertising? I think it's fine to see ad's for equipment, recordings, even live events here, but I don't need another Cealis or Viagra ad.

I have no issue what-so-ever with the use of whatever revenue it might generate.

I agree w/ Tim. If the ads are audio/video related I don't mind seeing them. Sometimes you even learn of something new that way, but I would not want to see tampon ads or something like that...

According to what I've read, it can be tailored quite specifically to audio products and even filtering out competitive products. No Bose ads, thankyouverymuch!

No viagra, cialias or other stuff like that either... :D

My thought it that we could try it and if we don't like it, we'll ditch it.

Do you mean Bose or a competitive product? I'm confused! :D

That sounds like the path.

(Heck, Some Bose ads might make for some funny threads... :D)

I voted as not minding, but that's with a caveat of not having to deal with 'movies' at the top. I don't mind pictures that flash and or change periodically, but I intensely dislike those that 'automatically' enlarge and/or begin a streaming video display.

I tend to agree with everyone else, if the KISS principal can be adopted without making the site look tacky then by all means give it a whirl !! Besides the bottom line is important too !!

We can always allow the ads and then block them with firefox or some other utility. That way we get paid AND dont have to look at them. :)

Since I worked for DoubleClick for a few years, I can hardly object to adverts ;)

But I agree that they must be audio / geek related and tasteful.

+1... tasteful... let's give it a shot and see where it goes..
