Perhaps some out there still have some interest in a speaker that is old enough to drink in all 50 states? I've got the sequel 2, and I recently got
around to downloading the schematic for the sl3 crossover. This actually
looks good on paper. Gone is the 100u electroylitic, and 2 caps total
instead of 3, in the high pass. The tap on the primary, (don't know if
it's a center, though it's drawn that way), results in a higher step up
ratio for the current that passes through that leg? Achieving the
"electrical lifting" a lower/mid frequencies. Do I have that right?
Man, I would never In a million come up with that. Has anyone else
seen that previously? So, anyway I was spitballing possibly Modding
my 2 to a 3. Why not act sane and just buy a sl3 pair? Thats too easy.

Isn't the woofer a different unit also? I really don't know. I have a pair of Sequel II in storage, and had read about the bass being not quite right. If this crossover rebuild does the trick though, I would gladly follow your lead and do the same. (IIRC, others here may have said they bought new woofer units from M-L and that helped the bass.)

My only thought is if the woofer has different specs, it may not react the same to a crossover change.

The surrounds on my original woofers became unglued, and the replacements aquired from ML had paper pulp cones. At this time the SL3 had been out a couple years. When I inquired about the difference, I was informed that the polycone woofers could no longer be sourced, and the performance improvements resulting from the change in cone material were just a lucky break. I thought this to be unusually forthcoming. I did notice better bass tonality and attack. But then, I've always preferred paper over plastic.
I'm pretty sure the SL3 and sequel 2 (not 1) woofers have the same thiele-small parameters. I'm also convenced they use the same stators. The major expense will probably be the purchase of the step up trans. One of the reasons I posted this was that, unfortunately I never got the chance to compare the two speakers side by side. The only time I've even heard the 3 was in a shop and so the sound was predictably awfull. So I was hoping to get some feedback about the change in sound. Don't know if it's an improvement across theboard or if there are some tradeoffs. Doing the mod is actually pretty straight forward. Just the time and expense.
